Devon R. Jacobs... This is me:
I have lived in many places. I have been to, and camped in, the majority of our National Parks (at least the ones worth going to...) I spent most of my school years in a quiet town in the Adirondack Mountains. I made a 6 year career out of college. The first three, a hopeless attempt to get a computer engineering degree at R.I.T..... the rest was spent earning a culinary arts degree and a hotel/restaurant management degree at Paul Smith's College. I am an ACF Certified Cook, although most of my cooking at this point is for myself and my friends. I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, computers, and the occasional wild party. As for my "Responsible Adult Life", I was a private cook for the Litchfield estate in the Adirondacks for 7 years. I enjoyed it immensely, but it was a seasonal job, and as usually happens with summer jobs, it came to a point where I was no longer able to pay the bills, and had to think about getting what folks call a 'real job'. At this moment I work servicing computers for 17 school districts in the area. It makes me feel good to know that I am keeping the technology on the kid's desks instead of collecting dust in a basement somewhere. In the course of this job, I have earned enough certifications to paper an entire wall of my room, but much like college degrees, they don't mean much except that you paid a lot of hard earned money for a pretty piece of paper that says you know what you already knew you knew.
To forget about the monotony of pulling gum and paperclips out of CD-ROM drives, I have been known to play a game, or two, or fifty... I don’t own many myself but have played a wide variety of card, board, and e-mail games. I even did a stint as the speaker in a game of nomic, and wrote the primer for our version of it.
I do other things in my spare time too... With the help of Chuck Henry, I have planned and built a working trebuchet, (now defunct) purely for the joy of drinking a beer and tossing things through the air that were never meant to fly. Mmmmmmmmm Beer... I make that too from time to time. Some good, some bad, some that will kick your can!
